Charity Event in Windmill Ranch Estates in Weston, Florida

On Thursday, June 3rd, Michelle Farber Ross and Lisa Cordero of Ross-Cordero Realty Group- Waterfront Properties & Club Communities, and Miami Dolphin Alum. Terry Kirby will be hosting a private concert at a beautiful mansion in Windmill Ranch Estates in Weston, Florida. The gorgeous venue is located among much of Weston Real Estate and Windmill Ranch Homes for Sale. The evening will begin at 6:30 PM with a pre-party, where South Florida’s VIP’s will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and drinks while they tour the largest home in Broward. Then, at 7:30 PM, singer/songwriter Willy Porter will take the stage in the 6000 sq. ft. great room for a private concert.
The purpose of the concert is to bring awareness and resources to the on-going problem of human trafficking and slavery, which currently afflicts 27 Million people throughout the world. As a result of the earthquake that hit Haiti earlier this year, thousands of children have been left orphaned, homeless and vulnerable to criminals who want to make a profit for selling them.
When the concert producer from Storyville Live extended this idea to Ross and Cordero they accepted the invitation. When Ross and Cordero went on to find a co-host for the event they knew NFL alum Terry Kirby would graciously accept. Several of the students, who attend his non-profit Charter School, Touchdowns4Life, are Haitian and still have family living in the devastated area.
“Through my work with the charter school, I always try to give back to today’s youth,” says Kirby. “This is a great opportunity to gain awareness for these practices of human trafficking and slavery, and another way to help those kids who really need a voice."
The venue for the event is one of the largest homes ever built in Broward County. The mega-mansion is owned by Mattress Giant CEO and co-founder, Richard Nilsen. The home boasts 34,565 square feet, 9 bedrooms, 10 full bathrooms, 4 half bathrooms as well as unbelievable amenities such as a 6,000 sq. foot great room with views of the lake and the lagoon pool, a movie theater and a safe room.

All of the profits from the evening's event will be donated to International Justice Mission (IJM) to aid in the global fight against human trafficking and slavery.
Storyville Live concerts are produced by the Storyville Coffee Company and they together with IJM are passionate about raising awareness and resources to aid in the fight against slavery and human trafficking.
“The only way we are going to end slavery is if justice advocates are in action, not spending 50% of their time fundraising,” says Cordero. “By hosting this event and through the generosity of our guests, we’ll help change the face of IJM’s fund-raising forever and that makes us feel really good about participating.”

Bulk Trash Collection Dates for Weston

No More Cap for Cypress Bay High School in Weston

Recently many families in Weston, Florida, were thrown into a panic due to a cap placed on one of the state’s best schools. Cypress Bay High School is located in Weston, Florida. Both schools are “A” rated and a number one choice for parents to send their children. However in 2007-2008, CBHS became the most populous school in the United States with over 5,000 students. The cap required students that were zoned for CBHS to enroll in Western High School.

There is good news for you parents near Weston, the cap has been removed. There are currently around 3,750 students enrolled in CBHS, and the school has earned a ranking among top 1,500 high schools in the US according to Newsweek’s study in 2009. Along with an outstanding ranking, CBHS also features one greater characteristic, its principal. The students adore Principal Charles Neely and have shown they never want him to leave. I-595 Construction Near Weston, Florida

Just shy of a year ago The Florida Department of Transportation signed a $1.2 billion contract with Spanish construction company ACS Infrastructure Development to rebuild Interstate 595 near Weston, Florida. The fact of the matter is that there hasn’t actually been much construction performed over the past year. Some work has begun on a walking trail along the canal next to the interstate, as well as some noise walls. The important question is when will the real work start?

Over the past 11 months, engineers have been gearing up for the big construction to begin and officials say that within the next two months, much of the heavy construction will commence. The plans include changes to 10.5 miles of I-595 to be rebuilt, which includes 63 bridges. Almost two miles of Florida’s Turnpike will be rebuilt as well. The DOT had to configure a way to keep traffic moving while the roads were being rebuilt. There are already 500 full-time and 375 part-time professionals employed and the plan on hiring over thousands more during the construction.

ACS Infrastructure Development signed on to rebuild I-595 and promise to have it finished by 2014. As well they plan to finance the design and maintain the road for 35 years. Joan Rivers Gets Inspired by Weston

Friday, March 12, Joan Rivers was in Weston, Florida, where she found inspiration for her Reality TV series “How’d You Get So Rich.” The source of this inspiration came from a Weston resident by the name of Jamie McDonnell. McDonnell, 46, was a former cocaine addict who is now a self-made, entrepreneurial success.

McDonnell is a true “rags-to-riches” story which Rivers says “America is all about.” He is featured in the interview at his 10,000 square foot, six bedroom- home in Windmill Ranch Estates in Weston, where 11 of his cars are parked. Among the cars are a Lamborghini, Bentley and a Rolls-Royce.

McDonnell got started at the age of 25 selling an invention of his brother’s, which detected microwave leaks, in New York City after being in rehab for four years. McDonnell was addicted to cocaine and had even failed the ninth grade. However, after selling his brother’s invention door to door, the idea to make safety kits that detected mold, lead and pesticides in water struck him.

The kits which are currently sold in nine countries bring in over $200 million a year. Not only does he keep up his business selling his safety kits, but he has since moved on to new ventures such as, owning a magazine, an advertising company, a plumbing business and even restaurants.

“It shows that hard work pays off,” says his wife Rebecca of McDonnell’s enormous success. McDonnell is a charitable man, and donates to organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club and the YMCA.

McDonell has ventured out of the business that earned him his first millions. He now owns a number of businesses in Weston’s Town Center. These include East City Grill, Azul Bar and Lounge, Libation Wine and Spirits, Del Vecchio’s Pizzeria, Stop Burger, as well as local magazine Think Weston and Windmill Advertising Group.

Rivers’ reality show is geared to show Americans the stories of self made successes like McDonnell. It is not highlighting those born into wealth, but the “rags-to-riches” stories.
